VERMONT RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CODES AND STANDARDS

Vermont Adopted Codes and Standards

Since 1972 the State of Vermont Division of Fire Safety has adopted nationally recognized safety standards to protect the public. Vermont is able to benefit from the research and fire safety experience of experts from across the nation. The Division of Fire Safety amends the national standards only when necessary to address conditions specific to Vermont.

Shoreland Protection Act

Also a reminder that the Shoreland Protection Act was passed last year and has been effective as of July 1, 2014. If you have a project within 250′ of Lake Champlain or any other body of water greater than 10 Acres in size, these regulations may pertain to you. Any new development, redevelopment or clearing of a property may require a permit or registration. For more information visit the VT Watershed Management Division at.

EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule for Lead Safety

Finally a reminder that the state of VT has adopted the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule for Lead Safety. It has been effective since April 22, 2010. If your project involves a pre-1978 home or child-occupied facilities, you likely need a company that is certified and uses lead-safe work practices. CLB is certified and available to assist in your project needs. For more information on the regulation visit:
